Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson had one of the longest lasting songwriting partnerships in the history of R&B. They met at a Harlem church in 1964 and quickly formed a musical partnership, writing classics like "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and "Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing." They married in the early 1970s and began recording as a musical duo, charting with classics like "Solid." Ashford died in August of 2011.
