R&B and hip-hop's rising stars not only modeled earrings for a T Magazine spread, but they also performed their own takes on Roberta Flack's "Killing Me Softly." The Seventies classic was remade with a hip-hop flair in 1996 by the Fugees.
Tinashe, SZA, Dej Loaf, Empress Of, ABRA, Lord Narf and Jean Deaux are all featured in the spread and short clip, which gives a behind-the-scenes look at their shoot. It begins with rapper Lord Narf performing an original verse before Tinashe launches into an a cappella version of the classic track. Empress Of, Deaux, SZA and ABRA all offer their own vocal takes on the track, paying respect to the vocal versions of both Flack and Lauryn Hill. The clip ends with Dej Loaf rapping her own original verse to cap things off.
Both Tinashe and Dej Loaf toured together on Nicki Minaj's Pinkprint trek last year. Tinashe is embarking on her own tour this spring in support of her upcoming sophomore album Joyride. SZA recently appeared on "Consideration," the opening track of Rihanna's Anti.
