Sleater-Kinney are in the midst of a five-night stand in New York and Brooklyn, and during their Sunday night show at Terminal 5, the reunited trio were joined by a surprise guest and a familiar face: Carrie Brownstein's Portlandia co-star Fred Armisen, who played cowbell through a frenzied, seven-minute version of the B-52s' "Rock Lobster."
Armisen served as the Fred Schneider to Corin Tucker's Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson for the rendition. This isn't the first time Sleater-Kinney have tackled the B-52s' single: During a December 31st, 1997 show in Olympia, Washington, the group was joined by K Records founder Calvin Johnson to perform "Rock Lobster."
Sleater-Kinney's New York stand continues Monday with a gig at Irving Plaza, then Tuesday at Music Hall of Williamsburg before wrapping up Wednesday at Brooklyn's Market Hotel. The trio will then take two months off before venturing Down Under for a two-week tour of Australia and New Zealand.
Armisen and Brownstein will next be seen together when Portlandia's sixth season premieres on IFC on January 21st.
