Watch Savages' Brooding, Minimalist 'Adore' Video

Clip for post-punk epic finds singer Jehnny Beth in dramatic close-ups

Savages' brooding clip for "Adore" features dark backgrounds and dramatic close-ups of singer Jehnny Beth

"Adore," the quasi-title-track on Savages' second LP, Adore Life, is a minimalist post-punk epic of light and shadow, tension and release. And the video – directed by Anders Malmberg – is a perfect companion, following a less-is-more template with sinister close-ups and dark backgrounds.

"I understand the urgency of life," singer Jehnny Beth sings directly into the camera lens, as the track builds from throbbing bass texture to crashing waves of distortion. "I adore life / Do you adore life?" she screams at the climax, her voice jumping an octave.

The 10-track Adore Life, which follows the quartet's 2013 debut, Silence Yourself, is out January 22nd. The band detailed the album in October, releasing an intense clip for "The Answer" that replicates the energy of the Savages live experience.

"We wanted to write the hardest, most extreme songs we could ever write," Jehnny Beth told Rolling Stone of the album, adding that while love songs did sneak into the writing sessions, there's still "a lot of anger" within the material.
