In August, R. Kelly dropped "Backyard Party," his groovy ode to summer cookouts, weekends and kicking back with friends. The single is the first off Kelly's upcoming LP, The Buffet, and today, the singer has shared his celebratory video for "Backyard Party," which features cameos by Snoop Dogg and Chance the Rapper.
In the clip, Kelly's mansion becomes the scene of the titular blowout, with the Chocolate Factory singer, his friends and a small army of women enjoying a "family reunion" that includes driving golf carts and electric drift boards in the street, nice weather, a barbecue buffet, lots of Chicago Bulls hats, indoor pools and outdoor dance parties. Snoop and Kelly's fellow Chicagoan Chance briefly appear in the video to partake in the festivities.
Kelly's The Buffet, the singer's first album since 2013's Black Panties, will arrive on November 20th. Speaking to EW in August about his new album, Kelly boasted, "I've done 462 songs for this particular album. They're not ideas, they are whole full songs. I wanted to be sure that I really nailed it to the point that when I started breaking it down to the 14, 15, 16 songs that go on the album that I had more than enough to choose from, and they would all be great choices."
While Kelly's recent albums have been tied to a similar concept — Love Letter and Write Me Back's soul-indebted sound, Black Panties' hip-hop-oriented production — The Buffet, like its title suggests, will sample a multitude of genre offerings, including a potential foray into country music.
