Just two days after wowing the crowd at the Country Music Awards with a performance of the title track for her upcoming movie Country Strong, Gwyneth Paltrow debuts her pop chops with a cover of Cee Lo's "F--k You" from next week's Glee. In the clip, which EW.com premiered this morning, Paltrow fills in as substitute teacher Holly Holliday when Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison) falls ill. When the New Directions doubt her ability to be relevant ("What would you know about Cee Lo, 'cause you're, like, 40?," Santana asks. "Top 40, sweet cheeks!," replies Holliday), Paltrow-as-Holliday launches into a cleaned-up version of the viral hit, getting nearly everyone on board with her sassy "Forget You." Mercedes and Artie double up on the bridge, and the end of the song finds everyone except an unconvinced Rachel dancing around the rehearsal room.
'Glee' Playback: Chris Colfer Outshines the Music in 'Never Been Kissed'
The censor-pleasing switch from "F--k You" to "Forget You" follows Glee's clean-up of Rocky Horror lyrics in "The Rocky Horror Glee Show" — but the latter didn't stop "Glee Show" from being one of the series' best episodes. If "Forget You" is any indication, we have high hopes for Paltrow's appearance.
