Bono resurrected "MacPhisto," his devil parody character from U2's early Nineties Zoo TV Tour, during Jimmy Kimmel Live's second annual (RED) (Shopathon) episode. Bono, Kimmel, DJ Khaled, Halsey, the Killers and more celebrities came together for an epic show tune, "If We Don't Help People With AIDS, We're Going to Hell."
Bono saved his cameo for the song's finale, breaking out of a steaming bathtub, bottle of champagne in hand. The glitzy Mephistopheles, decked out in face paint, lipstick and a red suit with horns, warned the celebrities that, due to their lack of charity, they ended up with him in hell (or "helf," since he couldn't think of a rhyme of "yourself"). The Killers served as MacPhisto's backing band, underscoring his message with hellish power chords.
The famous partygoers sang ironically about their wealth: DJ Khaled showed off his Apple Watch; Neil Patrick Harris and Channing Tatum demonstrated their tap-dance moves (but on carpet, so no one could hear the tapping); and Brandon Flowers crooned lyrics behind a grand piano.
All of the celebrities are donating unique experiences to (RED)'s (Shopathon). U2 is offering a chance to watch a full dress rehearsal before an upcoming show, and another person will enjoy tea with Bono and Julia Roberts. DJ Khaled will take one winner on a jet ski ride and Tatum will escort a fan to both Magic Mike Live in Las Vegas and the exclusive afterparty.
Fans can enter by contributing a minimum $10 donation to (RED) via Omaze through January 18th. Full details are available through the campaign site.
