Watch Andrew Bird, Fiona Apple's Playful 'Left Handed Kisses' Performance

Angsty duet appear on 'Ellen' for track that will appear on Bird's April LP, 'Are You Serious'

Andrew Bird and Fiona Apple performed their romantic, angsty duet "Left Handed Kisses" on 'Ellen'

Fiona Apple joined Andrew Bird on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to perform Bird's new single, "Left Handed Kisses." The track appears on Bird's upcoming album Are You Serious, to be released on April 1st.

The trio gave a playful performance of the conversational, romantic duet. Bird also provided a tender violin solo before the song's end. Afterwards, DeGeneres gave away copies of the album to the studio audience.

Bird announced his new LP in early February and collaborated with Apple and Blake Mills, the latter playing guitar on the album. The video for "Left Handed Kisses" premiered earlier this week. In the minimalistic clip, the two singer-songwriters sit in chairs across from one another as they deliver the blunt song.

"My inclination was to write a song about why I can't write a simple love song," Bird said of the track upon its official release at the end of February. "The song began as an internal dialogue. At first it was just my voice. Then another voice came creeping in, and I thought, 'This should be a duet if I can find the right person.'"
