Watch Jack White's Haunting Acoustic 'The Rose With the Broken Neck'

Musician delivers stripped-down rendition of Danger Mouse collaboration during 2015 acoustic tour

Jack White and his band deliver a striking, stripped-down rendition of "The Rose With the Broken Neck" in a new never-before-seen live video.

Jack White delivers a stirring performance of "The Rose With the Broken Neck." The clip is from an unearthed live video that was recorded during his 2015 acoustic tour at the Pink Garter Theatre in Jackson, Wyoming.

White explains that producer Danger Mouse and composer Daniele Luppi tapped him to write the lyrics to "The Rose With the Broken Neck" (along with two other songs) for their 2011 album Rome. The project presented a new challenge for White, who'd never previously written lyrics and vocals for another artist, he said. So he took an unorthodox approach, driving around Nashville, listening to the instrumentals and singing into a handheld recorder. White and his band then picked out a stripped-down version of "The Rose With the Broken Neck," easily adapting the original into a haunting folk arrangement.

Earlier this year, White released a career-spanning collection, Jack White Acoustic Recordings: 1998 - 2016. The 26-song set included a previously unreleased White Stripes song, "City Lights," which received a Grammy nomination for Best American Roots Song (White also earned an Album of the Year nod for his work on Beyoncé's Lemonade).
