Austin-based EDM artist Run DMT takes on British rock in a new remix of the Who's "Who Are You." Run DMT released a self-titled album in July and played the first-ever dance music stage at this year's Vans Warped Tour; he's also gained a following from his remixes of Major Lazer. Remixing the Who proved to be a different kind of challenge, though, taking nearly three months to complete instead of his usual routine of two weeks per song.
"I could not wrap my head around the idea of a dubstep-ish remix of such a classic, meaningful song. I floated through several concepts, all of which fell short of the power of the original," he tells Rolling Stone.
Ultimately, he infused dirty bass that drops right as the song builds. The cool pace of the song is accelerated, and it's an interesting modern twist on the song that's become such a generational staple. "It was like remixing my childhood," he says.
