Javier Colon, the winner of the first season of NBC's hit singing competition The Voice, has signed on to play the part of Ray Charles in a forthcoming episode of the new NBC series The Playboy Club. The show, set in 1963 in Chicago, will feature several other musicians cast as stars from the era, such as Raphael Saadiq as Sam Cooke and Colbie Caillat as Lesley Gore.

Colon will record a performance of one of Charles' songs, which will be featured in the show and sold in the iTunes store along with other cover songs recorded by guest stars on the show. The show's producers are planning to follow the Glee model of releasing recordings from the show immediately upon airing episodes, and collecting the tracks as a soundtrack further down the line.

“Let My Love Open the Door”

Pete Townshend | 1980

A peppy, hopeful love song, "Let My Love Open the Door" became a U. S. Top Ten hit for Pete Townshend in 1980, anchored by the kind of repeating synthesizer figures that he'd used in some of the Who's recordings in the previous decade. Although Townshend brushed the song off as "just a ditty" in Rolling Stone shortly after its release, in 1996 he revealed it was about love of the holiest sort. "It's supposed to be about the power of God's love," he remarked. "That when you're in difficulty, whether it's major or minor, God's love is always there for you."
