T.I. Inks Three-Picture Acting Deal

June 5, 2008 4:21 PM ET

T.I. will go from house arrest to Hollywood as the rapper has signed a three-film deal with Screen Gems to act in three upcoming movies before serving his jail sentence next spring. First up, Tip will appear alongside Matt Dillon in the crime drama Bone Deep, followed by a starring role in the drama Boulevard. A third, undetermined film will round out the deal. These months of freedom promise to be busy for T.I., as the rapper must speak to kids against gun violence as mandated by his community service as well as promote his upcoming album Paper Trails and his MTV reality show.

“Vans”

The Pack | 2006

Berkeley, California rappers the Pack made their footwear choice clear in 2006 with the song "Vans." The track caught the attention of Too $hort, who signed them to his imprint. MTV refused to play the video for the song, though, claiming it was essentially a commercial for the product. Rapper Lil' B disagreed. "I didn’t know nobody [at] Vans," he said. "I was just a rapper who wore Vans." Even without MTV's support, Lil' B recognized the impact of the track. "God blessed me with such a revolutionary song… People around my age know who really started a lot of the dressing people are into now."
