This March, hundreds of bands from around the world will descend on Austin, Texas for the annual South by Southwest Music Festival, and today organizers revealed the third round of acts that will perform in Austin from March 17th to 22nd. Leading the way are Best Coast, Arcade Fire's Will Butler, Jack Antonoff's Bleachers, teenage metal act Unlocking the Truth, Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna guitarist Jorma Kaukonen, Yo Gotti, Diarrhea Planet and nearly a thousand more. (Seriously, SXSW puts the number of artists playing at 965 and counting.)
Those artists join previously announced artists like the Zombies, post-punk icons Gang of Four, AWOLNATION, Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts, Thee Oh Sees, avant-rockers the Pop Group, Surfer Blood, the Ting Tings, Your Old Droog and many others. Get the complete list of SXSW artists so far at the festival's official website.
Other notable artists in the third round announcement include Detroit's Dej Loaf, Nashville's JEFF the Brotherhood, Queens rapper Homeboy Sandman and Philadelphia's Alex G. The star-making festival will feature acts from as far away as Nigeria (Wiz Kid, D'Banj), Sarajevo (Dubioza Kolektiv), Seoul (Crayon Pop, Epik High, Hitchhiker) and Myanmar (Side Effect).
Despite surprise performances by Kanye West and Jay Z, Lady Gaga and Soundgarden, the 2014 SXSW was marred by a hit-and-run incident that killed four people outside Austin's The Mohawk venue. 22-year-old Rashad Owens, who was attempting to flee police at the time of the accident, was charged with capital murder and 24 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. KVUE reports that Owens would face trial in November 2015.
