Bruce Springsteen Gets 409 Percent Sales Bump After DNC

'We Take Care of Our Own' played at end of Obama's speech

Bruce Springsteen is riding a post-convention bounce any politician would envy: Sales of "We Take Care of Our Own" jumped 409 percent after the song played at the end of President Obama's speech September 6th at the DNC, Billboard reports.

The track sold 2,000 downloads in the week ending September 9th, for its best sales week since March. The tune leads off Springsteen's latest album, Wrecking Ball, which also saw a sales increase, of 3,000 copies, a 37-percent jump.

Wrecking Ball was Springsteen's 10th Number One album, pulling him into a third-place tie with Elvis Presley for the most chart-topping albums. The Beatles have the most, with 19; followed by Jay-Z with 12.

Jason Mraz re-emerged after his disappointing second album with this lead single, a Jack Johnson-esque ditty about giving yourself fully to someone else. The success of the reggae-tinged song (it earned two Grammy nods and a spot on the Billboard singles chart for well over a year) was something the folk-pop singer never predicted when he wrote it in 15 minutes at home. "I played a happy-hippie chord progression that would probably work without 50 different Bob Marley songs," he told Rolling Stone. "I thought, 'It's too novelty. This is a nursery rhyme,'" concluding that "you can never guess what's gonna be a hit."
