Over the past year, former internet stars Karmin ditched their viral YouTube covers and embraced their songwriting chops. On "I'm Just Sayin'," the duo channel their quirky hip-pop style into a feel-good track about hard work and perseverance. "'I'm Just Sayin''" was one of the first songs we wrote when we moved out to Los Angeles," says singer Amy Heidemann. "We felt very inspired being in a brand new city and meeting lots of new people."

Karmin originally composed "Sayin'" with nothing but a mini-keyboard, floor-banged drum beats and the Voice Memo feature on the iPhone before taking it to producer Jon Jon Traxx. "'Sayin'' got produced with a fresh throwback hip-hop beat and live instruments, ending up one of our favorite songs on Hello," says Heidemann. Karmin's debut album, Hello, will be released May 8th on Epic Records.

“Youth Knows No Pain”

Lykke Li | 2011

“Like on 'Youth Knows No Pain' — we are the ones that should demonstrate, because we can take it,” Likke Li said. “We can pierce ourselves, take Ecstasy, dance all night and still go to work at our McDonald's jobs.” Despite the hedonistic sentiment in the song, the Swedish singer also admitted in hindsight her youth had repercussions. “I remember when I was 18-19 and feeling that I know it all,” Li said. “I always feel that I know it all. But that song is about realizing you don’t, and reflecting, ‘Boy, if I only knew what would follow.’”
