Rihanna Defends Her Violent New Video

Rihanna called in to BET's music countdown show 106 & Park yesterday to defend her new video for "Man Down," which has come under fire from groups such as the Parents Television Council for depicting the singer shooting a man in cold blood. "We just wanted to hone in on a very serious matter that people are afraid to address, especially if you've been victimized in this scenario," Rihanna said.

The singer isn't concerned that the video might send the wrong message to young women who have been the victim of domestic violence and sexual assault. "I've been abused in the past and you don't see me running around killing people in my spare time," she said.

BET has said that the "Man Down" clip meets their internal standards guidelines and the network will continue to air the video despite the controversy and outside pressure.

“Oh Sherrie”

Steve Perry | 1984

Steve Perry's girlfriend Sherrie Swafford was actually in the studio when Perry began writing this song--his lone Top Ten hit as a solo act--with two co-writers. The trio began at midnight one night with just "Oh, Sherrie!" and "hold on, hold on." Three hours later, they had a complete song. Swafford, however, had to wait until the next day to hear it. "Sherrie actually got tired and went to bed," Perry said. She also appeared in the video, but their relationship did not hold on for long.
