"'Refuse to Lose' came about with me wanting to flip the horn break from 'Darkest Lightl by the Lafayette Afro Rock Band. I'd been wanting to do it for a while but wanted to go somewhere else with it," Dobie tells Rolling Stone. "I said to myself 'let's four to the floor it' and not do the regular hip hop thing, but still coming from a hip hop mind state in construction."
