Prince Previews New Album

NPG Club members get first chance to hear "The Rainbow Children"

October 15, 2001 12:00 AM ET

Prince will make his next album, The Rainbow Children, exclusively available for download by members of his NPG Music Club on October 17th.

The album is the follow-up to 1999's Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic, Prince's Arista debut after his unhappy run with Warner Bros. Prince showcased some of the new material this past Spring when he released the first song, "The Work -- Pt. 1," on Napster for download. On June 11th he launched his Prince: A Celebration birthday bash, a weeklong, guest-filled extravaganza that offered some fans the opportunity to hear some of the new tunes live, as well as at listening sessions.

In addition to the preview download, the NPG Music Club offers fans the opportunity to purchase preferred seating at all Prince performances, as well as VIP passes to after-show parties and additional free downloads in a premium package for $100 per year. Fans can register at www.npgmusicclub.com.

The Rainbow Children will be released commercially on November 20th.

“Youth Knows No Pain”

Lykke Li | 2011

“Like on 'Youth Knows No Pain' — we are the ones that should demonstrate, because we can take it,” Likke Li said. “We can pierce ourselves, take Ecstasy, dance all night and still go to work at our McDonald's jobs.” Despite the hedonistic sentiment in the song, the Swedish singer also admitted in hindsight her youth had repercussions. “I remember when I was 18-19 and feeling that I know it all,” Li said. “I always feel that I know it all. But that song is about realizing you don’t, and reflecting, ‘Boy, if I only knew what would follow.’”
