Pearl Jam have confirmed a North American tour running from the spring through the summer. The first leg of the tour kicks off in April in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and includes an appearance at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival that month and two dates at New York City's Madison Square Garden in May. The group will also appear at Bonnaroo in June and, in August, perform two-night stands in Boston and Chicago.
Tickets to most shows go on sale on January 29th; the Boston and Chicago on-sale dates will be announced a later time. The group has pledged to donate $3 from every ticket sold to its Vitalogy Foundation, a nonprofit organization that works in community health, the environment, arts and education and social justice.
Three years have passed since Pearl Jam put out their last album, Lightning Bolt, but they've been busy touring since then. Last fall, they toured South America, where they performed a handful of cover songs, including Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb," U2's "A Sort of Homecoming" and Eagles of Death Metal's "I Want You So Hard (Boy's Bad News)."
They later put out a limited-edition single of the latter performance, along with Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron singing Eagles of Death Metal's "I Love You All the Time," in an effort to raise money for victims of the terrorist attack on an Eagles show in Paris last year. Josh Homme, who plays with Eagles of Death Metal, would later commend Cameron's cover for its "electronic, 'nightscape,' futuristic" feel.
