Oasis Guitarist Attacked Onstage At Toronto's Virgin Festival

September 8, 2008 8:50 AM ET

Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher was attacked by an audience member during the band's set at the Virgin Festival in Toronto. As evidenced by the above video, the unnamed assailant appears from stage right and pushes Noel into his monitor while the band played "Morning Glory." The man then attempts to confront singer Liam Gallagher before being promptly restrained by security (who also had to restrain Liam from punching the assailant). The band followed the attack with a short break before returning to the stage to resume their set. The unnamed attacker was later charged with assault. No motive was given as to why the man attacked Noel Gallagher but it's safe to assume the assailant is a fan of either Jay-Z, Radiohead, Damon Albarn or whoever else Oasis happens to be sparring with this week.

“The A Team”

Ed Sheeran | 2011

This debut track from the then-20-year-old British singer-songwriter has a dark story behind it. Sheeran says he culls songwriting inspiration from "viewing other people's situations," which, for the heroine in "The A Team," involves drug addiction and prostitution that began as a teen. Sheeran paints the woman's trials with haunting imagery such as "But lately her face seems/Slowly sinking, wasting/Crumbling like pastries." "I did a gig at a homeless shelter, [and the song] is about one of the women there. It's her story," he said.
