Eminem to Perform at VMAs
Eminem, who was nominated for eight awards at this year's MTV Video Music Awards, has been added as a performer at the VMAs on September 12th from Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre. Slim Shady joins Kanye West, Drake, Justin Bieber, B.o.B and Florence and the Machine as performs at this year's VMAs, which will be hosted by comedienne Chelsea Handler. [MTV]

Riot Breaks Out After Earth, Wind and Fire Concert
A 400-person riot broke out following an Earth, Wind and Fire concert in Old Town Fort Collins this weekend as Coloradoans burned down a vending tent, smashed store front windows and fought one another at the state's NewWestFest. Police were forced to use tear gas to disperse the crowd. Several people were injured in the melee. [ Coloradoan]

Ou Est Le Swimming Pool Singer Commits Suicide at Pukkelpop
Charles Haddon, the 22-year-old lead singer of emerging UK electro-pop trio Ou Est Le Swimming Pool, climbed a 40-foot telecommuncations mast and jumped to his death Friday, August 20th after the band performed at Belgium's Pukkelpop Festival. Police are treating Haddon's death as a suicide. Ou Est Le Swimming Pool scored a hit in the UK with "Dance the Way I Feel." Haddon's death comes just days after a concertgoer killed himself by jumping onto the stage at a Swell Season concert. [ The Independent ]

Kanye Promises New Music Fridays
Kanye West has promised to release new music every Friday through his Twitter from now until Christmas. "I know yall need the music so I'm dropping 1 new song every weekend until Xmas. It may be my song, it may be a new [Jay-Z] song," Kanye tweeted. "I'm calling it good Fridays. Yall know every Friday yall gone have a new joint from our family. Brian Eno's Small Craft on a Milk Sea Out November 2nd
After signing with Warp Records, Brian Eno has revealed he will release his new album Small Craft on a Milk Sea on November 2nd. The album, which features Eno collaborating with Jon Hopkins and Leo Abrahams, will be released in Limited Edition, Collectors Edition and regular formats. [Brian-Eno.net]

Jackson Fans Plan Protest at Murray Hearing
The Michael Jackson fan group Justice4MJ plot to protest Conrad Murray, the doctor accused of involuntary manslaughter in the King of Pop's death, when Murray heads to a Los Angeles court for a hearing today, August 23rd. [TMZ]

80 People Arrested at L.A. Rave Fest
Eighty people were arrested and 16 treated by paramedics at this weekend's rave music Love Festival in Los Angeles. Over the 80 people arrested, most were booked for either drug possession or the use of fake IDs. Raves have been under intense scrutiny in L.A. since the overdose death of a 15-year-old girl at the Electric Daisy fest in June 2010. [ Los Angeles Times ]

Lady Gaga Steals Britney Spears' Twitter Crown

Faith Evans Busted for DUI
Faith Evans was arrested and booked on suspicion of DUI after the singer was pulled over at a checkpoint in Los Angeles this weekend. Evans was released on Sunday, August 22nd. [TMZ]

“Bird on a Wire”

Leonard Cohen | 1969

While living on the Greek island of Hydra, Cohen was battling a lingering depression when his girlfriend handed him a guitar and suggested he play something. After spotting a bird on a telephone wire, Cohen wrote this prayer-like song of guilt. First recorded by Judy Collins, it would be performed numerous times by artists incuding Johnny Cash, Joe Cocker and Rita Coolidge. "I'm always knocked out when I hear my songs covered or used in some situation," Cohen told Rolling Stone. "I've never gotten over the fact that people out there like my music."
