Missy Elliott, Pharrell Perform 'WTF' With Marionettes on 'The Voice'

The Weeknd croons medley of hits, Coldplay bring out gorillas during singing competition

Missy Elliott recreated the retro-futuristic atmosphere of her "WTF (Where They From)" video during her Tuesday night performance on The Voice. Joined by producer/guest vocalist Pharrell, Elliott donned her flashy mirror suit and strutted across a stage designed as "WTF Station," backed by a crew of dancers and marionette versions of the musicians.

The Weeknd took the polar opposite approach with his minimalist Voice showcase, which found Abel Tesfaye crooning a medley of three soulful hits – "The Hills," "Earned It" and "Can't Feel My Face" – on a dimly lit stage. While the first two tracks found Tesfaye emoting with little theatrics, he did display some fancy footwork on "Face."

Coldplay's performance followed Elliott's example, channeling the spirit of their goofy, ape-filled "Adventure of a Lifetime" video. Midway through the dance-friendly A Head Full of Dreams track, four people in gorilla costumes appeared in the Voice coaches' chairs, clapping along to the chorus before joining the band onstage.
