Kid Rock Arrested in Waffle House Brawl

October 22, 2007 10:46 AM ET

After a show Saturday night in Atlanta, Kid Rock got involved in a brawl at the local Waffle House. The incident went down at roughly 5 AM Sunday, when Kid and five members of his entourage went to the breakfast chain and a male customer at the restaurant recognized and then "exchanged words with" a female that entered with Kid. The situation escalated until Kid Rock and the brazen-balled customer (he was outnumbered six to one) got into a physical altercation that spilled out into the parking lot. After the fight ended (no victor was announced at press time), Rock and his crew left in their tour bus, only to get stopped by police about a mile down the road. Rock and his entourage were arrested and taken into custody on a misdemeanor charge of simple battery. Rock was booked with an additional charge of "Wearing a shirt with his own face on it," which should be a felony. Kid and the crew spent about twelve hours in the slammer until getting bailed out 5 PM yesterday. As for the customer, he was charged with a felony for criminal damage to property for breaking a Waffle House window, allowing that sweet syrupy smell to escape the waffleicious confines of the restaurant. Fighting at the House of Waffles shouldn't come to a complete surprise to Rock fans, however. Here's another delicious tidbit for you: In an interview with CNN following his one-year ban from a Nashville strip club, Rock questioned the sentencing judge whether slapping someone at a Waffle House would warrant a similar punishment. Kid's about to find out.

“(We're Not) The Jet Set”

George Jones and Tammy Wynette | 1973

George Jones and Tammy Wynette were still married when they recorded the tongue-in-cheek "(We're Not) The Jet Set." The lyrics, written by Nashville songwriter Bobby Braddock, who also penned Wynette's "D-I-V-O-R-C-E" and Jones' "He Stopped Loving Her Today," make fun of the good life by declaring, "We're not the Jet Set/We're the old Chevrolet set." Braddock recalled that while writing the song, he needed the name of a city that evened out the rhyme he had with "Riviera" and "Missourah." “I got out a Rand McNally atlas," he said. "In the first part are the maps. The last part is an alphabetical listing of cities. I wanted a rustic, small-time sound. I went to the listing for Missouri. And I found 'Festus.' I loved the sound of it."
