Josh Homme has softened his "Fuck the Grammys" stance. In a new fan Q&A facilitated by FasterLouder, the Queens of the Stone Age frontman says he's no longer interested in "the drama" of the Grammy night controversy – which involved cutting off his epic jam with Nine Inch Nails, Dave Grohl and Lindsey Buckingham – and that he was "really drunk" when he made that infamous comment at a recent Houston gig (which also involved flipping a verbal middle-finger to Imagine Dragons, who won Best Hard Rock Performance over Queens).
"I got misunderstood for something I said when I was reacting to someone in the audience recently," Homme says, noting that the whole encounter was "not that big of a deal." And while he doesn't exactly seem to be a massive Grammy fan, he says he's open to playing the awards show down the road – that is, "if they got their shit together, maybe."
"I'm a musician, I play my music, and I don’t really worry about the rest," he continues. "I go and play my music. I don’t like to be disrespected, but nobody likes that.”
Elsewhere in the Q&A, Homme also addresses the legal battle over Kyuss Lives!, a reformed version of his former stoner-rock band, Kyuss. Former members Brant Bjork and John Garcia began touring under that new moniker in 2011, but the following year, the duo were sued for trademark infringement and consumer fraud by Homme and former member Scott Reeder; Garcia and Bjork then changed the name to Vista Chino in 2013.
"I’ve never been a big fan of reunions and sequels and stuff like that," Homme says, "because it really tramples what was, for reasons that I don’t really believe in. You can always play the songs of another band, but you don't have to use that same name. I think you need to respect your fans, and, as I said, respect your legacy. Because at the end, it's all about respect. That's what's important. You don't toy with something like that. And you don't take it lightly. And you gotta protect it."
