After teasing their collaboration on social media last month, Britney Spears and Tinashe unveiled a sultry new version of "Slumber Party" on Tuesday night.
The reggae-inflected tune about late-night romance – "Sheets all on the floor just like an ocean," Spears sings, "Neighbors say we're causing a commotion" – originally appeared on Spears' Glory album in August. Tinashe follows Spears' lead on her verse, singing, "Let's fill up this clawfoot bath with bubbles/ Loving me so hard it's causing trouble/ If it's seven minutes in heaven, make it double."
The single's reggae lilt comes courtesy of the Swedish producers Mattman & Robin. The two are on a hot streak: they also have credits on DNCE's "Cake by the Ocean" and Selena Gomez's "Hands to Myself," both of which became Top 10 hits.
Tinashe is a longtime admirer of Spears. In 2011, she wrote on Twitter, "umm.. @britneyspears just tweeted my video. I thin[k] I just died and went to heaven." Last month, she posted a picture with Spears on Instagram captioned, "The face you make when the rumors are true and you collabed with your idol & basically your whole life is a dream so you keep it cute for Brit but inside you are wigless and dead."
Tinashe has been busy on her own music as well: she recently released her new project Nightride, which will be followed at a later date by Joyride. "I see them as two things that are equally the same," she told Rolling Stone. "I think you can be a combination of things, and that's what makes people human and complex … I don't like to be limited to one particular thing so I want to represent that duality and that sense of boundlessness in my art."
