Fresh off My Morning Jacket's new album The Waterfall and helping to serve as Roger Waters' backing band at Newport Folk Festival, Jim James is back with a surprise new solo track titled "Take Care of You." The heartfelt, spirited song appears on the soundtrack for the upcoming drama No Escape.
The film, starring Owen Wilson and Lake Bell, focuses on an American family's efforts to stay alive and together during a violent political uprising in Southeast Asia. That traumatic experience is captured in James' lyrics as the My Morning Jacket frontman sings on the chorus, "Because I know / There's a bad, bad, bad way for things to go / But I knew / I knew, knew, knew / I'd take care of you."
The track opens with James singing atop atmospheric plucking before the rhythm section kicks in for the second verse, which features an unlikely guitar triumvirate as an electric, acoustic and slide all lock into the groove.
"Take Care of You" also marks James' first solo cut since his 2013 LP Regions of Light and Sound of God. James' track is the closing number on the No Escape soundtrack, which boasts Marco Beltrami and Buck Sanders' joint score for the drama. The soundtrack is out now via Lakeshore Records, while the film itself arrives August 26th.
After touring in support of The Waterfall this summer, the band will hit the road again this autumn for a two-month-long trek kicking off September 30th at Portland, Oregon's Keller Auditorium.
