Universal is in talks to bring the stage musical to the big screen

Green Day's 'American Idiot' May Become a Movie

Green Day's American Idiot may soon hit the big screen. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Universal is in negotiations for the screen rights to the stage musical version of Green Day's blockbuster album and has hired Michael Mayer, the director of the stage production, to adapt the show into a movie. Universal has had previous success with Mamma Mia, the film adaptation of the musical based on the music of Abba.

In addition to Mayer, Oscar-winning writer Dustin Lance Black is in talks to write the screenplay, and Tom Hanks is in place to serve as a producer along with the members of Green Day.

Next was formed in Minneapolis when the uncle of Terry "T-Low" and Raphael "Tweety" Brown, who was a gospel choir director, introduced the brothers to Robert Lavelle "R.L." Huggar. Sounds of Blackness singer Ann Nesby groomed the R&B group before handing them over to Naughty by Nature's KayGee, who wrote and produced "Too Close." The idea for the song was sparked "from a conversation we had with several girls at a nightclub," explained T-Low. "It's talking about the club scene, with guys getting out of hand and the female telling him to back up, asking, 'What are you doing?'"
