Artist: Bassnectar feat. Angel Haze
Song: "Freestyle"
Album: Freestyle EP
"This song is classic 808 hip hop, with a twist: once it kicks in, at each transition moment, I took note of what I initially wanted to do, and instead did the opposite," Bassnectar's Lorin Ashton explans to Rolling Stone. "I created a custom Samba drum chorus of my friend Amber playing every single drum sound of a Batucada/Samba drum line, I worked with several yodellers and opera singers to create a Tarzan like jungle call (special thanks to Jaik Willis), and then took the song through a series of twists and turns and time signiatures, all centered around the motif of "freestyle" which to me means just letting go and getting creative, and doing what you love outside the confines of expectation."
