"Hanging On," the first single from Active Child's forthcoming album You Are All I See, is a stunning, delicately arranged ballad that showcases the dreamy, innocent voice of singer and composer Pat Grossi. It's the sort of song that poses a major challenge to a remixer: How do you change it and make it your own without ruining it? Los Angeles musician Morgan Kibby – a.k.a. White Sea – went above and beyond all expectations with her remix of the track by emphasizing the fragile beauty of Grossi's voice and shifting its electronic textures without abandoning the lush, airy beauty that defines the song. Grossi is especially pleased with how the mix turned out. "You never know what you are going to get from a remix, and very rarely is it something this special," he says. "It's easily the most thoughtful and powerful reworks of any of my songs."

“Too Close”

Next | 1998

Next was formed in Minneapolis when the uncle of Terry "T-Low" and Raphael "Tweety" Brown, who was a gospel choir director, introduced the brothers to Robert Lavelle "R.L." Huggar. Sounds of Blackness singer Ann Nesby groomed the R&B group before handing them over to Naughty by Nature's KayGee, who wrote and produced "Too Close." The idea for the song was sparked "from a conversation we had with several girls at a nightclub," explained T-Low. "It's talking about the club scene, with guys getting out of hand and the female telling him to back up, asking, 'What are you doing?'"
