Last year, Dhani Harrison focused his attention on his supergroup Fistful of Mercy – which also featured Ben Harper and Joseph Arthur. With that project on break, Harrison has returned to his band thenewno2. The group's new EP EP002 is coming out on September 27th, but you can get an exclusive download of the track "Live A Lie" here, which features a guest appearance by Regina Spektor. RZA also guests on another song on the EP. "Regina is a good pal," says Harrison. "RZA too. We have had  loads of time hanging out talking about stuff. We just finally got around to [recording together.] I deeply enjoy playing with both of them."

Thenewno2 plan to release their second album sometime next year. "It's nearly done," says Harrison. "We stopped to finish the EP, but we are pretty much there. It's looking like a record."

“Piano Man”

Billy Joel | 1973

Billy Joel’s first hit, “Piano Man,” was – ironically – an autobiographical lament about how his first album wasn’t a hit. When Cold Spring Harbor didn’t take off, Joel briefly became a lounge pianist in Los Angeles, and this song, about that experience, expressed his frustrations and fears at the time: “And they sit at the bar and put bread in my jar/And say, ‘Man, what are you doing here?’” “It was all right,” Joel said later, about the gig. “I got free drinks and union scale, which was the first steady money I’d made in a long time.”
