Rocker undergoes treatment for breast cancer, cancels tour

October 8, 2004 12:00 AM ET
Melissa Etheridge, 43, has cancelled her upcoming seven-city tour to undergo surgery for breast cancer in Los Angeles, where she lives with her partner, actress Tammy Lynn Michaels.

"I am fortunate to be under a wonderful doctor's care and thankful that this was caught early," said the singer in a statement released yesterday.

Last month, Etheridge released Lucky Live, a CD/DVD of her April performance at New York City's Roseland Ballroom, and she is slated to star as a gay mom in an ABC sitcom.

“Too Close”

Next | 1998

Next was formed in Minneapolis when the uncle of Terry "T-Low" and Raphael "Tweety" Brown, who was a gospel choir director, introduced the brothers to Robert Lavelle "R.L." Huggar. Sounds of Blackness singer Ann Nesby groomed the R&B group before handing them over to Naughty by Nature's KayGee, who wrote and produced "Too Close." The idea for the song was sparked "from a conversation we had with several girls at a nightclub," explained T-Low. "It's talking about the club scene, with guys getting out of hand and the female telling him to back up, asking, 'What are you doing?'"
