Expect hell to freeze over again this winter: The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's Class of '98 will consist of the Eagles, as well as Fleetwood Mac, the Mamas and the Papas, Santana, Gene Vincent and Lloyd Price. "Jelly Roll" Morton will be inducted as an early influence and Allen Touissant will enter as a non-performer.
Though acts are not eligible for induction until 25 years after the release of their first album, Santana is still recording and touring and the Eagles reunited several years ago. Fleetwood Mac is currently wrapping up a reunion tour of the lineup with which it scored its biggest hits.
Of the other acts, the Mamas and the Papas won fame for their airy California folk and impressive sales for catchy counterculture anthems like "California Dreamin'." Vincent and Price are from an earlier era. Vincent was an early rockabilly singer most famous for recording the hit "Be-Bop-A-Lula." He died in 1971. Price was a New Orleans singer/songwriter who wrote several Top Ten R&B singles.
