It might not seem like Devo have much in common with Madonna and Jay-Z, but thanks to a new deal with Warner Bros. Records, the Akron, Ohio outfit have joined the big leagues with a 360 deal. In a move that finds an ahead-of-its-time band signing what could be considered an ahead-of-its-time contract, WB will handle all facets of Devo's merchandising, touring, endorsing and more in 2010, when the band returns with a new album and a corresponding tour.
To mark their renewed partnership — WB released the band's first six albums — Devo's two most acclaimed albums, 1978's Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo and 1980's Freedom of Choice, will be released as both deluxe reissues and limited-edition colored vinyls on November 3rd. A reissue of the band's first 7'' inch single "Mongoloid"/"Jocko Homo" will also be released.
Starting on the date of the reissue's release, Devo will also embark on a seven-city tour this November that will find the quintet performing two concerts in each venue. The first night at each stop, Devo will perform Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo in its entirety, followed by a full performance of Freedom of Choice on the second night. Tickets for the shows go on sale starting September 18th. Fans who purchase tickets to any of the shows will receive a download of three additional unreleased demos for "Whip It," "Red Shark" and "Turn Around," also known as that Devo song that Nirvana covered on Incesticide.
As Rolling Stone previously reported from this year's SXSW, Devo are in the midst of working on their first album since 1990's Smooth Noodle Maps. Mark Mothersbaugh and Gerald Casale also revealed that drummer Josh Freese has been recruited to join them in the studio and on the road.
