The defense attorneys for Conrad Murray, the physician charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson, have requested a delay for the trial, which is currently scheduled to begin on May 9th. Murray's lawyers claim that they need more time to review new reports from prosecution witnesses.

In particular, Murray's team says it needs more time to do research on an additional medical expert brought in by the prosecution to counter the defense's claim that Jackson swallowed the powerful anesthetic propofol by himself. The defense maintains that Jackson was entirely responsible for the overdose of the drug that resulted in his death in 2009.

UPDATE: The opening arguments of Dr. Murray's trial has been officially pushed back to September.

“Long Walk Home”

Bruce Springsteen | 2007

When the subject of this mournful song returns home, he hardly recognizes his town. Springsteen told Rolling Stone the alienation the man feels is a metaphor for life in a politically altered post-9/11 America. “Who would have ever thought we’d live in a country without habeas corpus?” he said. “That’s Orwellian. That’s what political hysteria is about and how effective it is. I felt it in myself. You get frightened for your family, for your home. And you realize how countries can move way off course, very far from democratic ideals.”
