David Bowie's return has received another boost, as the BBC will air a documentary on the rock great's life and career in May, NME reports. David Bowie – Five Years focuses on five key years for Bowie – 1971, 1975, 1977, 1980 and 1983 – as well as his comeback efforts for his forthcoming album The Next Day. The film will feature archival footage and interviews with collaborators and fellow musicians. "This is a project that has been in development for more than a decade – in fact, since Bowie and I worked together in 2001 on a film for the BBC Omnibus strand," said director Francis Whately.

Bowie returned on January 8th, his 66th birthday, with his first new music in 10 years. He had been working in secret on The Next Day, due in March, for two years. Bowie is also the co-subject of the forthcoming biopic Lust for Life, which explores his collaboration with Iggy Pop in West Berlin in the 1970s.
