Arctic Monkeys, David Bowie and Jake Bugg are among a dozen acts included on the shortlist for this year's Barclaycard Mercury Prize shortlist. The award honors the best British album over the past year as chosen by a panel of British music critics and others in the industry.

Other contenders this year include Disclosure, Laura Marling and Savages. Last year's honor went to Alt-J, and other winners have included PJ Harvey, the xx, Arctic Monkeys and Franz Ferdinand. This year's awards show will take place on October 30th.
