Dan + Shay's new single "From the Ground Up" hasn't even been officially sent to radio yet, but stations have already been adding what the ACM-nominated duo describes as a "true love song."
Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney wrote the single, the follow-up to their Number One "Nothin' Like You," after a conversation about their respective grandparents.
"It's a song we wrote at an emotional time, my grandfather had just passed away and Shay's grandfather was in the hospital," says Smyers, who co-produced "From the Ground Up." "We were chatting about how our grandparents were married for 60-plus years."
"That kind of love you don't see as much now," says Mooney. "You see all the divorce in the media and we wanted to write a true love song, and set that example that we saw from our grandparents. "
Dan + Shay have released a video for the single and will make "From the Ground Up" a key component of their set when they hit the road with Darius Rucker in June for his Good for a Good Time Tour.
