David Bowie, Ray Davies and monks from the Drepung Gomang Buddhist Monastic University in India will return to perform at the fifteenth annual Tibet House Benefit Concert at Carnegie Hall in New York City on February 28th. Tibet House artistic director Philip Glass has also enlisted Laurie Anderson, Rufus Wainwright, Angelique Kidjo and Ziggy Marley. The event is scheduled to coincide with the Tibetan New Year, and this year is the Year of the Water Sheep.
In addition to Bowie and Davies, last year's concert included performances by Chocolate Genius' Marc Anthony Thompson, Patti Smith, the Kronos Quartet and Beastie Boy Adam Yauch, who played bass with Bowie. A spokesperson for the event said that additional acts may still be added between now and the performance.
Tibet House performs a variety of tasks and functions to preserve Tibetan culture. In addition to running a cultural center, library, gallery and archive, the organization also develops and runs educational programs and traveling exhibitions.
Tickets are available through the Carnegie Hall box office and (212) 247-7800.
