The Mars Volta have split and At the Drive-In's reunion came and went, but Omar Rodríguez-López has been hard at work with his new group, Bosnian Rainbows. Their new song "Turtle Neck" shimmers with wavy, lush guitars and unhurried percussion before shifting to sprawling textures and morphing tempos. It cuts loose in the second half, turning into a spacey post-hardcore assault of jagged chords and gut-punching drums.

The Mars Volta Break Up

"Turtle Neck" is on Bosnian Rainbows forthcoming debut album, out this spring. They'll hit the road for two weeks starting February 15th in Atlanta and continuing through February 28th in Minneapolis, before playing the Mexico City's Foro Sol on March 15th.

“He Will Break Your Heart”

Jerry Butler | 1960

A lightly swinging Latin-influenced, almost cha-cha groove and close harmonies decorated Jerry Butler's early soul hit "He Will Break Your Heart," delivering a stately warning that his rival would never love his girl like he did. The melody came to Butler as he was driving on the highway from Atlantic City, New Jersey, to Philadelphia with Curtis Mayfield, and as Butler told Rolling Stone, "I just sang the melody and Curtis put the chords to it." The song's premise, Butler added, "was something that I'd lived ...The lyric was an experience rather than a revelation. Whereas music is usually a revelation."
