While the Beach Boys are in the midst of a remarkably successful reunion tour, the family legacies of its members are continuing on in a new group.

California Saga, who made their live debut with the Beach Boys on June 2nd, features Brian Wilson's daughters, Carnie and Wendy Wilson (of Wilson Phillips fame); Mike Love's son and daughter, Christian and Ambha Love; Carl Wilson's son, Justyn Wilson; Dennis Wilson's son, Carl B. Wilson; and Al Jardine's sons, Matt and Adam Jardine. The lineup will also include guitarist Billy Hinsche, Carl Wilson's brother-in-law, who toured with the Beach Boys for decades.

Diehard Beach Boys fans will be familiar with California Saga's concept: Al Jardine has toured in the past with his sons, Hinsche and the Wilson sisters as the Beach Boys Family and Friends.

The group is set to perform on July 10th at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles. Late last month, Rolling Stone reported that Mike Love had booked Beach Boys shows for this fall without Brian Wilson.

“Nightshift”

The Commodores | 1984

The year after soul legends Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson died, songwriter Dennis Lambert asked members of the Commodores to give him a tape of ideas. "And the one from Walter Orange has this wonderful bass line," said co-writer Franne Golde. "Plus the lyric, 'Marvin, he was a friend of mine' ... Within 10 minutes, we had decided it should be something like a modern R&B version of 'Rock 'n' Roll Heaven,' and I just said, 'Nightshift.'" This tribute to the recently deceased musicians was the band's only hit without Lionel Richie, who had left for a solo career.
