Alleged Private Photos of Rihanna and Chris Brown Leak

May 11, 2009 9:26 AM ET

Rihanna's return to the public eye took an unforeseen detour into her private life this weekend as a series of photos allegedly featuring the singer and her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown leaked onto the Internet, capturing Rihanna in various stages of undress. According to TMZ, Rihanna's label Island Def Jam's legal department sent letters to various gossip sites demanding that the photos be removed, saying the images violate "the Artist's rights," even though the label didn't confirm or deny whether Rihanna is actually in the most scandalous pics.

Even though Island Def Jam is on the case, some Websites still have the images live. The photos appear to have come from Rihanna's cell phone. In one of the leaked pics, Rihanna is taking a picture of herself with what looks like her cell phone camera, with "I love you, I miss you, Robyn" written in soap on a mirror. (Robyn Rihanna Fenty is the singer's full name.) There are also various topless and bottomless pics (though neither show the singer's face), a couple of self-portrait photos and one shot of Chris Brown with panties on his head, which argues against the popular Internet theory that it was Brown himself who leaked the photos. The source of the leak is still unclear, and Brown's reps issued a statement to Essence denying his involvement.

This leak comes nearly three months after the "horrific" photo of a battered Rihanna hit the Internet, and one week after Rihanna made her first red carpet appearance since the February incident at a New York gala. Brown has been charged with two felonies and pleaded not guilty to both counts. As Rock Daily reported last week, Brown's lawyer Mark Geragos has launched an investigation into the LAPD photo leak, which he says is "outrageous governmental misconduct."

“He Will Break Your Heart”

Jerry Butler | 1960

A lightly swinging Latin-influenced, almost cha-cha groove and close harmonies decorated Jerry Butler's early soul hit "He Will Break Your Heart," delivering a stately warning that his rival would never love his girl like he did. The melody came to Butler as he was driving on the highway from Atlantic City, New Jersey, to Philadelphia with Curtis Mayfield, and as Butler told Rolling Stone, "I just sang the melody and Curtis put the chords to it." The song's premise, Butler added, "was something that I'd lived ...The lyric was an experience rather than a revelation. Whereas music is usually a revelation."
