In the past, Circa Survive have released albums on major and indie labels, but for their fourth LP, Violent Waves, the band decided to do things differently. On August 28th, fans will be able to buy the self-released and self-produced Violent Waves directly from the band's website for $5. "By choosing to download our music directly from us, you are choosing to give our band a future and directly supporting us and our families," vocalist Anthony Green wrote in a letter to fans.

Circa Survive will hit the road in support of the album in September (find their tour dates here). Hear Violent Waves in its entirety with this exclusive stream.

Song Stories

“The A Team”

Ed Sheeran | 2011

This debut track from the then-20-year-old British singer-songwriter has a dark story behind it. Sheeran says he culls songwriting inspiration from "viewing other people's situations," which, for the heroine in "The A Team," involves drug addiction and prostitution that began as a teen. Sheeran paints the woman's trials with haunting imagery such as "But lately her face seems/Slowly sinking, wasting/Crumbling like pastries." "I did a gig at a homeless shelter, [and the song] is about one of the women there. It's her story," he said.
