After Hospital Exit, Britney Spears Takes On Parents

February 7, 2008 9:10 AM ET

The chaotic life of Britney Spears continues. After leaving the UCLA Medical Center ahead of schedule, Spears was spotted with paparazzo boyfriend Adnan Ghalib at the Beverly Hills Hotel. It gets more complicated: The two headed to her lawyer's office to discuss Britney's objection to her parents' role as conservators on her behalf (TMZ suggests that Britney's father will seek more enforcement of his role in court today). Meanwhile, Jamie and Lynne Spears released a statement to CNN's Anderson Cooper expressing their disappointment in their daughter's early exit from psychiatric care. With a legal wedge now driven between Spears and her parents, this can only get uglier.

“1999”

Prince | 1982

“I don’t consider myself a great poet,” Prince told Rolling Stone. “I just know I’m here to say what’s on my mind.” In the case of the apocalyptic party anthem “1999,” he was worried about then-president Ronald Reagan’s foreign policies. The song’s melody is based on a riff borrowed from the Mamas and Papas’ “Monday, Monday,” and Prince originally envisioned the first verse with three-part harmony but later split the vocals between himself and members of the Revolution. Because Warner Bros., with whom Prince was locked in a contractual battle, owned the original’s masters, Prince rerecorded the song and appropriately released that version in 1999.
