April 27, 2012 8:45 AM ET| Rolling Stone
Sales for Tupac Shakur's back catalog spiked following his virtual appearance during Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg's headlining sets at the Coachella festival, Billboard reports. Sales for Shakur's 1998 compilation Greatest Hits jumped up by 571 percent in the week following the debut of the "hologram" at Coachella, and other albums, such as All Eyez on Me and Me Against the World also increased significantly. Unsurprisingly, the late rapper's best-selling tracks since the Coach... | More »

Omar Rodriguez-Lopez on Pulling Double Duty at Coachella
April 23, 2012 4:50 PM ET| Steve Appleford
Inside a small trailer backstage at Coachella yesterday, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez was trying to cool down after his first performance of the day, and the dressing room wasn't much cooler than the triple-digit heat outside. Rodriguez-Lopez pulled double duty on both festival weekends in Indio, California, playing lead guitar with the reunited At the Drive-In on the main stage just hours after a full set on bass with Le Butcherettes, the fiery garage-punk band whose next album he is currently ... | More »

Indie label Mom + Pop Records, home to acts like Sleigh Bells and Metric, is poised to have another breakthrough band in Kentucky rockers Sleeper Agent. It seems like a good deal for everyone involved. "They're a true indie label; you know everyone that works there and you can just talk to them any day you want," raved singer Alex Kandel backstage at Rolling Stone's Rock Room party for the second weekend of Coachella. Added bassist Lee Williams, "It's interesting because I feel... | More »

Video: Nero Battle the Daylight at Coachella
April 23, 2012 12:15 PM ET
Coachella may be widely known as a peaceful, immaculately organized festival, but not all of its performers were pleased during the event's second weekend. Sunday's set times were pushed back 20 minutes to facilitate the headling set between Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, leaving the dubstep trio Nero with a late-afternoon start time. "We're basically bringing a big light show and video show, and we normally perform in dark places. It was kind of a stipulation," explained member Danie... | More »

Video: Black Keys, John Fogerty at Coachella
April 23, 2012 11:45 AM ET
During their headlining Coachella set last Friday, the Black Keys were joined by pal John Fogerty in paying tribute to the late Levon Helm of The Band. Taking the stage with the Ohio blues rockers, Fogerty led the group in an emotional version of "The Weight," The Band's 1968 classic. The Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman traded vocals with the Keys' Dan Auerbach, making the performance a joyous celebration of Helm's life and career. Helm passed away in New York on April 19... | More »

Video: Here We Go Magic Earn a Fan in Thom Yorke
April 23, 2012 11:45 AM ET
As the Brooklyn psychedelic-rockers Here We Go Magic prepare for the May release of their new album, A Different Ship, produced by longtime Radiohead collaborator Nigel Godrich, they still seem a bit stunned by the serendipity of their big break. Godrich discovered the group after being dragged to their drowsy, early-afternoon set at the 2010 Glastonbury Festival by his friend, one Thom Yorke, a fact that most members of the band did not realize until after their final notes rang. "We got off... | More »

Video: Borgore Too Hot to Handle at Coachella
April 23, 2012 11:15 AM ET
The Israeli DJ-producer Borgore got a bit too risqué for Coachella organizers' tastes at his performance during the festival's first weekend. "The second weekend set is different because on the first weekend, we had two pole dancers and we made them strip down to pasties. Coachella weren't feeling that," explained the former metal drummer turned dubstep star at Rolling Stone's Rock Room party. Despite the live show reconfiguring, Borgore (real name: Asaf Borger) wa... | More »

Video: Black Lips resurrect Biggie at Coachella
April 23, 2012 10:45 AM ET
Tupac, who? When the Black Lips stopped by Rolling Stone's Rock Room party for the second weekend of Coachella, they had just usurped Snoop and Dre's famous hologram. "Biggie came out and did a song with us," they explained of their afternoon set the day prior. "He did 'Hypnotize.'" However, the Atlanta garage punks – currently touring in support of their Mark Ronson-produced LP, Arabia Mountain – didn't quite have the $500,000 budget that Snoop and Dre di... | More »

Dr. Dre: Tupac Hologram Only for Coachella
April 23, 2012 10:35 AM ET| Rolling Stone
In a backstage video from Coachella, Dr. Dre has clarified that the Tupac hologram was specifically conceived for the festival and not as a first run for a future tour. "It was strictly for Coachella," says Dre in the video. "Get it right. I want to get rid of all the rumors out there. This was not done for a tour." Dre did leave the possibility of a tour open, adding, "If a tour happens, we'll see." Strong reactions to the Tupac hologram's debut performance last weekend fueled ru... | More »
