  • Video: St. Lucia Perform 'Closer Than This' at Spotify House

    May 18, 2012 5:45 PM ET

Brooklyn-based electro-pop group St. Lucia recently performed a sunny version of their catchy track "Closer Than This" at the Spotify House in Austin. They recall of the show, "We've done a couple of acoustic recordings but not in front of an audience, so this was quite nerve-wracking." The smaller, more intimate setting of the Spotify House allowed the band to "have the whole soundscape of somebody's voice and all of those voices together as one unit," they say.  | More »

     |  Rolling Stone

Bruce Springsteen delivered the keynote speech at South By Southwest earlier this month. The event was streamed live on NPR.  Good morning! Why are we up so fucking early? How important can this speech be if we're giving it at noon? It can't be that important. Every decent musician in town is asleep, or they will be before I'm done with this thing, I guarantee you. I've got a bit of a mess up here. When I was invited to do the keynote speech of this year's conf...  | More »

Doomtree MC Mike Mictlan stood on a beaten wooden stage at Austin’s Beauty Bar on Sunday, the club’s closing night; he delivered the impassioned lines of "Team The Best Team" while the other four mic wielders in the group formed a semi-circle behind him, stomping out the song’s deliberate beat in unison. Moments earlier all five rappers – Mictlan, P.O.S., Dessa, Cecil Otter and Sims – were bounding around the stage like ninjas, blazing through high-speed verses i...  | More »

Among the highlights of Bruce Springsteen's memorable SXSW keynote was his acoustic rendition of the Animals' "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place," which he followed by saying, "That's every song I've ever written. I'm not kidding, that's all of 'em." That didn't surprise Animals frontman Eric Burdon, who spoke with Rolling Stone on Saturday in Austin, Texas when he stopped by our Rock Room. "I knew by listening to his music. I could figure he w...  | More »
