How intense is the anticipation for Prince's Saturday night headlining set at Coachella this year? Even Day One headliner Jack Johnson risked being scolded by security and sneaked around to hear the Purple One soundcheck Thursday night. "It was rad," grinned Johnson backstage a scant hour before his own set Friday night. "They did a Radiohead cover at soundcheck, 'Creep.'" Though it may seem like Johnson would be more at home at Bonnaroo (where he'll also be playing next ... | More »

"It's good to be playing Coachella at a good slot before we've even released anything over here," marveled Dan le Sac, the MC half of U.K. hip-hop duo Dan le Sac Vs. Scroobius Pip, as the two sought out a patch of shade in the V.I.P. area on Day One of the fest (U.S. fans know them best for their video for "Thou Shalt Always Kill"). Rock Daily quizzed them on their desert odyssey: Coolest thing about our own set: Scroobius Pip: On the U.K. tour we've got a living room that we ... | More »

April 26, 2008 5:15 AM ET| Rolling Stone
While most attendees were still smuggling their stashes past security at the front gates on Coachella's Day One, math-rock outfit Battles had a large, vocal crowd enraptured at the Gobi tent with their pounding single "Atlas." April 11, 2008 12:20 PM ET| Daniel Kreps
To headline Saturday night of Coachella, Prince reportedly commanded a royal fee: $4.8 million. That's even more than what Middle Eastern countries give Michael Jackson to show up. "Prince was a late, late addition to the line-up," a source tells Perez Hilton. "The promoters added him to try and sell more tickets and make up for a less than stellar — in comparison to years past — roster of performers." The expensive acquisition paid off, as tickets for Saturday sold out less ... | More »
