Well, this was inevitable: with her little Maxwell Drew finally birthed, former pop star and TV queen Jessica Simpson is channeling the personal milestone into her day work by announcing plans to launch a maternity line. It will be the latest addition to her (quite literally) ever-expanding, billion-dollar clothing empire.
Judging from previews, the new line falls in easily with the girl-next-door clothing already associated with her mainstream brand. Leopard-print pants, floral empire-waist frocks and cozy knits form the crux of the collection, which seems to place its emphasis on comfort, understandably. A press release refers to the looks as "breezy, everyday pieces aimed at the modern mom-to-be who wants to maintain her fashion edge throughout her pregnancy."
No doubt Simpson's own lengthy, highly public pregnancy served as an inspiration. As she commented, "You want to wear clothes that are flattering to your baby bump; you want to show your bump off."
This fall, expecting women can find Simpson's pregnancy wear at Destination Maternity, Motherhood Maternity and Macy’s stores.
Now, the question remains: Will Beyoncé follow suit?
