Dynamic Style at the 2012 Costume Institute Met Gala

Last night, nearly every conceivable star in music, art, fashion and film made an appearance at the annual Costume Institute's Met Gala, the red carpet for which is worth the sheer style impact of the Oscars, Grammys and Golden Globes combined. In execution alone, it's an extraordinary affair: the world's premier designers pair up with an artistic muse or model, dress them in their finest looks – usually intricately custom-made for the occasion – and send them down the red carpet, often on their own arms. It's a very specific, very proud creative tradition.

This year featured no shortage of dynamic pairings between designers and artists: Florence Welch teamed up with Alexander McQueen creative director (and fellow Brit) Sarah Burton, Tom Ford dressed Rihanna and Justin Timberlake, Givenchy dressed everyone from Rooney Mara to Kanye West and Beyonce. Naturally, Prada, the pioneering Italian label being honored at the occasion, showed upon a few stars, including Bruno Mars and Jessica Biel.
