New Music Report: Lindstrom and Christabelle

Rolling Stone's Christian Hoard spotlights Lindstrom and Christabelle's Real Life Is No Cool, the first full-length collaboration between Norwegian producer/remixer Hans-Peter Lindstrom and the vocalist formerly known as Solale, as his "Christian Rock" new music pick this week. The pair say they met and bonded over Motown, Grace Jones and Eighties soul, which seems about right based on their new disc of lush dance music. The LP is slippery and arty on some tracks and more straightforward on others — with its horn blasts, "Baby Can't Stop" recalls Michael Jackson's "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'." Lindstrom's tracks range from rubbery funk to Eighties synth cheese, and his true gift is turning out meaty sounds. With her breathy sexiness, Christabelle finds a way to be both an arty chanteuse and disco diva.
