"We did Deervana two nights ago and it was a total shit show, it was just hilarious" says Deer Tick frontman John J. McCauley backstage at Bonnaroo. "I got a nice bruise from jumping into the drums, it was pretty cool." The band, who have been playing all-Nirvana cover sets recently, didn't overthink the gig. "It was a last-minute kind of thing. We just picked eight songs that we really knew and wouldn't have to rehearse." Deer Tick isn't a full-time tribute act, so the guys also talked up their upcoming album, which is due out in October. "It's pretty thematically and sonically consistent, but there's a lot of different genres of music that we haven't really played around with before," says McCauley.
